World Cup 2010 Qualifier: Argentina vs. Paraguay
A World Cup without Argentina might previously have been unthinkable but Albicelestes’ 3-1 home defeat to Brazil on Saturday fuelled growing doubts as they fight for the fourth and last automatic spot with only three qualifiers to go.
Diego Maradona’s side will face Paraguay in Asuncion tonight knowing that automatic qualification will be out of hand should they suffer another loss.
Maradona, who led the country to World Cup triumph 23 years ago, was picked to lead the national team last summer. And now Argentine fans are starting to get worried.
Gerardo Martino expects Albicelestes to go all out for the win this evening. However, the Paraguay tactician insists that he’s ready to face the Argentinians, as they are eager to secure World Cup qualification themselves.
The match kicks-off at 7:00 p.m. ET.
UPDATE: Paraguay defeated Argentina 1-0 and joined Brazil as the second South American squad to qualify for South Africa. Argentina on the other hand is in clear danger of missing its first World Cup since 1970.
