World Cup 2010 Qualifying: Kazakhstan vs. Croatia

The Croatian national football team faces Kazakhstan this afternoon for their last 2010 World Cup qualification match.

The Croatians dropped to third place in the table following Ukraine’s 1-0 victory against England on Saturday so their dreams of reaching South Africa are somehow over. They need to win tonight and hope that Andorra will beat the Ukrainians if they are to secure a spot in the play-offs.

Meanwhile Bayern Munich striker Ivica Olic has been sidelined for around six weeks after picking up an injury while training with the rest of the Croatia squad.

The 30-year-old said:”When I was shooting at goal, I felt as though my calf had burst. It felt as if someone had hit me with a hard object.”

Game time is 5:30 p.m. CET (11:30 a.m. ET).

UPDATE: Croatia beat Kazakhstan 2-1 but it was not enough to make the playoffs for next summer’s World Cup Finals.
