World Cup 2010 Qualifying: USA vs. Costa Rica
The United States men’s national soccer team will face Costa Rica at RFK stadium in Washington D.C. tonight at 8:00pm. The Yanks are aiming to finish atop the group and undefeated at home in nine matches.
Had the Americans not won in Honduras last weekend, the team would have needed at least a draw tonight to qualify for South Africa without going to a playoff.
Sochaux striker Charlie Davies will miss the game after being injured in a single-car crash on Tuesday. The 23-year-old was in a stable condition but it was unclear what injuries he had suffered or whether or not they might jeopardize his career.
The Costa Ricans know that a defeat this evening could leave them in a play-off against the fifth-placed squad in South America (Uruguay or Argentina).
UPDATE: [USA 2 Costa Rica 2] The Yanks, with their draw at RFK finished top of the table in CONCACAF. Honduras and Mexico will join them in South Africa next summer.
