World Series: Yankees vs. Phillies (Game 1)

Game 1 of the 2009 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies starts tonight, and while there is still a chance that rain might pour later this evening, the game should not be affected.

The Yankees have reached the Fall Classic by beating the Twins and the Angels. The Phillies, on the other hand, have advanced this far by defeating the Rockies and the Dodgers.

The series opens with a great pitching matchup: Philadelphia’s Cliff Lee and New York’s CC Sabathia. However, this championship is more than about pitching. Much of the focus will be on Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Howard, two of the hottest baseball superstars today.

The Phillies are trying to become the first team to repeat as World Series champions since the 1998-2000 Yankees, and the first team to do it in the National League since the 1975-76 Cincinnati Reds.

UPDATE: The Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Yankees 6-1 Wednesday night to take a 1-0 lead in the World Series.
