World Series: Yankees vs. Phillies (Game 2)

Game 2 of the 2009 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies starts at around 8:00 p.m.

Charlie Manuel’s side took the first game in the series with ease, so Alex Rodriguez and the gang will definitely be trying to even things up later on tonight.

The pre-game will start out with Jay-Z performing his latest single “Empire State of Mind” along with Alicia Keys. Hopefully their number would get the home crowd and team pumped up for the big game.

The Yankees’ last trip to the World Series was in 2003. And their return to baseball’s grandest event after a six-year hiatus provided an early ratings boost.

The game last night earned an 11.9 fast national rating and 19 share. That’s up 29 percent from the opener last season!

Philadelphia won the championship last year but the last time these two teams played in the Fall Classic, in 1950, the Bronx Bombers took the series four games to none.

UPDATE: Home runs by Mark Teixeira and Hideki Matsui led the Yankees to a 3-1 victory over the Phillies, tying the series at one game apiece.
