Applications as Gifts now Available for iTunes Store Users

Owners of iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad will get a new feature from iTunes allowing them to buy applications and send them to a friend as a gift.

After the usual agreeing to the terms and conditions of the store, users will be able to access a “Gift this App” option from the pull-down menu next to the application’s price. The buyer will then be allowed to input the recipient’s name and email address. It will also allow the user to include a personal message of up to 500 characters.

The gift can then be printed and physically delivered or it can be sent via email. Either way, there will be a redemption code that the lucky friend will be able to use to download the application.

The store country should be the same for the one buying the application and the one receiving the application.

However, the option is not allowed for in-app purchases or subscriptions or for buying updates. It is also non-refundable.
