Your mathematical question today concerning the Pythagorean Theorem was actually stated incorrectly. The Pythagorean Theorem, by itself, is used to find the hypotenuse of a right triangle. Of course it can be used to find the “third” side of a right triangle when the other two sides are known. Using the Pythagorean Theorem alone will not give you the area of the right triangle.
