McCartney Leaves EMI; Signs Deal with an Independent Music Group

Legendary music icon Paul McCartney has signed a contract with independent group Concord Music Group to distribute the re-release of his back solo catalog.

EMI Group has been handling those songs until February this year. The songs were originally released between 1970 to 2006.

Concord released McCartney’s last two albums; the 2007 studio album Memory Almost Full and 2009 live album Good Evening New York City.

“Since the release of ‘Memory Almost Full’ in 2007 I’ve had a good working relationship with Concord and enjoyed our mutual love of music,” said McCartney in a statement. The announcement coincides with the 40th anniversary of the release of the former Beatles member’s first solo album.

McCartney is the latest among artists who left EMI. Radiohead and Rolling Stones severed ties with the record company.

EMI is one of the big four record companies. The others are Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group.

Guinness World Records declares McCartney as the most successful songwriter in the history of popular music.
