2011 French Open: Nadal Beats Murray to Reach Final
Rafael Nadal is one win away from equaling Bjorn Borg’s record six French Open singles titles.
The Spanish world no.1 defeated fourth-seeded British star Andy Murray in the semifinals on Friday, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, to reach the final at Roland Garros for the sixth time in seven years. Nadal struggled to hold serve at times against Murray as the wind again made life difficult for the players. However, the 25-year-old Spanish star, who celebrated his birthday on Friday, saved each of the six break points he faced in the third set to turn back Murray in straight sets. “The conditions today were not easy,” Nadal said. “Very, very difficult with the wind changing a lot.”
Nadal will face either Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic in the final. When asked who between Federer and Djokovic he’d prefer to face on Sunday, Nadal said either of the two could give him difficulties in the final. “Both opponents will be very, very, very difficult for me and for everybody,” he said.
