The President of ABC Entertainment Division has tendered his resignation ahead of the announcement of the fall lineup of shows. The President of ABC Family is reported to replace him.
Steve McPherson released this statement Tuesday, July 27, “I want to thank the wonderful team of individuals who have worked with me throughout my time here and wish them nothing but the best.” It has been rumored for several months now that he will be stepping down.
McPherson helped develop successful shows like Desperate Housewives, Lost and Grey’s Anatomy. However, these shows are showing signs of age, similar to what is happening with Brothers & Sisters. There has been difficulty coming up with replacement shows that could be as successful as those shows. Currently, Dancing with the Stars remains intact with a large following of audience.
During the last season, the network ranked third in terms of viewership. They are down by 3% from last year. It is also tied with NBC for third in primetime viewing at the 18-49 demographic, but that is also down at 7% from last year.
ABC Family President Paul Lee is being tapped to replace him. He is credited with helping reinvent the network for programs like The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Greek.
