African Cup of Nations: Nigeria vs. Algeria
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Algeria’s Desert Foxes in today’s bronze medal match at the 2010 African Nations Cup which draws to a close tomorrow night.
Both teams are looking to bounce back from semi-final defeats to fierce local rivals and start looking ahead to this year’s World Cup. The Nigerians lost 1-0 to Ghana, while the Algerians were defeated 2-0 by Egypt in what most pundits described as an Arab war.
The West Africans are on a familiar path as this could be the seventh time they will be crowned third best squad since they started participating in the continent’s elite football tournament.
Historically, the less fancied side has done well in the third-place play-off.
The game in Benguela kicks-off at 11:00 a.m. ET (17:00 CET).
UPDATE: Nigeria again finished third at the African Nations Cup with a 1-0 win over Algeria. It is the fourth time in the last five tournaments the Eagles have finished as bronze medalists.
