Amir Khan: “I Want to Hurt” Paul Malignaggi
Expect WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan of Britain to pull no punches when he defends his title against American Paul Malignaggi on Saturday at the Madison Square Garden. Khan has vowed a knockout victory similar to his win against Dmitry Salita, whom he demolished in one round in December last year.
Khan, who has been on the receiving end of Malignaggi’s trash talking, said he will shut the American’s mouth with a knockout. “I’m happy to fight him just to shut him up…I want to hurt him in the ring.” Malignaggi has been trashing Khan in almost every opportunity he gets. Recently the Brooklyn-native Malignaggi belittled Khan by saying that “the strong survive in New York City, the lights shine bright here, so hopefully (he) don’t fry under pressure.”
Khan is coming off a sensational win in his first defense of the title he won against Andriy Kotelnik, knocking down Salita three times in the first round. Malignaggi, on the other hand, scored a unanimous decision victory against Juan Diaz in December.
