California State Senator Roy Ashburn, a fierce opponent of gay rights, was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after leaving a gay nightclub in midtown Sacramento.
The veteran Kern County legislator was spotted weaving early Wednesday and was pulled over in his state-issued black Chevy Tahoe, a vehicle paid for by taxpayers.
According to reports, there was an unidentified man travelling with the senator but he was not detained. Ashburn, a father of four, was booked into jail on two misdemeanor charges and released on $1,400 bond.
