Apple Announces One Million Download for Mac App Store on its First Day
Newly released Mac App Store is already enjoying its first milestone after Apple announced that it hit one million downloads on its first day alone.
“We’re amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs regarding the achievement. “Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is.”
The feat achieved last January 6 is remarkable as there are only more than 1,000 applications available in the site during that time.
The leading category for most number of applications is games followed by utilities, productivity and entertainment.
Prices in the Mac App Store are higher than that of its mobile device store counterpart. Only about a hundred applications are free and most are in the $10 – $50 range.
The new store requires the latest version of the Mac OS, which is 10.6.6 under the Snow Leopard upgrades.
