Apple iTunes Triples Song Preview Length
Reports indicate that Apple will be extending preview length for songs in the United States market from 30 seconds to 90 seconds. However, only songs that exceed the length of 2 minutes and 30 seconds can be previewed in this new tripled length. Shorter songs will retain the current 30 second preview.
An email has been sent by Apple to music label representatives Tuesday, November 2, regarding the plans.
“We are pleased to let you know that we are preparing to increase the length of music previews from 30 seconds to 90 seconds on the iTunes Store in the United States. We believe that giving potential customers more time to listen to your music will lead to more purchases,” began the letter.
The letter was sent by “The iTunes Store Team”.
No information was announced about when the plan will take effect. Apple refused to comment regarding the entire report.
Rumors regarding the extended preview was actually stated last August, something that was expected to be announced last September during Apple’s special event. No announcement came though. Reports said that the National Music Publishers Association may have told Apple to do some additional steps first before implementing such plans.
