Chicago Bears Get Julius Peppers

Julius Peppers has agreed to sign with the Chicago Bears, ending several days of waiting about the decision of this year’s top NFL free agent. Peppers will get at least $ 40.5 million in the first three years of a $ 91.5-million, six-year contract. The 30-year-old defensive end could receive additional bonuses if he wins defensive player of the year or gets selected to play in the Pro Bowl.

Peppers was elated to join the Bears, saying that it is good to come to a place “with rich tradition.” The burly defense man is expected to help improve the Bears’ defense, which ranked only 17th the past season. He will try to complement the existing defensive team led by Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher, and Tommie Harris.

The 6-foot-7 Peppers is considered one of the league’s fastest and biggest players, but his reputation has been tainted by his problem with consistency. Peppers played for the Carolina Panthers last season, but rejected the team’s $ 54-million four-year contract offer.
