Colt McCoy era ends with injury (video)
Texas quarterback Colt McCoy hurt his passing shoulder on his team’s fifth offensive snap when he was walloped by defensive end Marcell Dareus for no gain on an option run at the Alabama 11-yard line.
It was McCoy’s biggest and final game of his amazing college career.
The 23-year-old, who is the winningest quarterback in NCAA history, was taken to the locker room with 9:14 left in the first quarter, and his injury shell shocked the Longhorns offense.
After X-rays were negative and it appeared that Colt’s injury was a strain, he implored to return to the game. However, trainers, doctors and his coaches agreed that it was best for him to stay on the bench.
Even though McCoy was out, he still got his teammates motivated. But in the end, Alabama prevailed, 37-21.
It was the Crimson Tide’s first BCS title since 1992. Nick Saban’s side joins the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes and this year’s Boise State team in college football’s highest level to finish a season with an undefeated record.
