Danica Patrick Bombs Out in NASCAR Nationwide Series Debut
All that hype about Danica Patrick doing something amazing in her first-ever race among the big boys at the NASCAR Nationwide Series were just that, hype. The 27-year-old crowd favorite figured in a 12-car wreck in the 68th lap, ending her first foray into “AAA” level racing.
Despite the dismal finish, however, Patrick showed some flashes of brilliance in the early goings, when she avoided an 8-vehicle collision on Lap 7. She was starting to get the hang of things when the final wreck occurred. In fact, Patrick posted her fastest lap in the 61st lap, making her quip to crew chief Tony Eury Jr. that “I was just starting to get it” when her No.7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet was ordered to the pit for the final time. She would finish in 35th place.
Tony Stewart with his No. 32 Ritz Crackers Chevrolet won the race, while Carl Edwards notched his second-consecutive second-place finish. Kevin Harvick finished third.
