Demi Lovato Settles with Former Back-Up Dancer
Demi Lovato has avoided a messy court battle, agreeing to an out-of-court settlement with a former back-up dancer who threatened to sue the Disney star for allegedly punching her.
Lawyer Donald Karpel confirmed to Radaronline.com on Thursday that his client, dancer Alex Welch, reached an amicable settlement with the camp of Lovato. “It was confidential negotiations that ended in complete and amicable resolution. She is satisfied,” Karpel said.
The punching incident, which occurred while Lovato and Welch were touring with the Jonas Brothers, led the troubled “Sonny With a Chance” star to enter rehab to deal with “physical and emotional issues” and “take personal responsibility for her actions.” Welch, who suffered injuries that required medical care due to the punching incident, had demanded an apology from Lovato as part of the settlement. Welch also suggested that Lovato make a donation to a charity. Karpel did not say whether Lovato’s demands were followed in the approved settlement.
