Fantasia Hospitalized after Aspirin Overdose
Former “American Idol” champion Fantasia Barrino was taken to a hospital late Monday after taking an overdose of Aspirin and sleeping pills, several days after she was accused in court documents of being involved and appearing in a sex tape with a married man.
Fantasia’s manager, Brian Dickens, said in a statement released on Tuesday that the singer “was dehydrated and exhausted” when she had the overdose and that she was “overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention.” Dickens also assured that Fantasia’s injuries “are not life threatening.”
In the statement, Dickens acknowledged that Fantasia indeed had an affair with Antwaun Cook, whose wife, Paula, has filed for divorce citing her husband’s affair with the “American Idol” winner. Dickens said Fantasia and Cook had an 11-month affair but claimed that the singer was made to believe that the man “was not happy in his marriage and his heart was not in it. She believed him when he told her he and Mrs. Cook were separated late in the summer of 2009.”
Dickens said Fantasia is now safe and would soon be released from an undisclosed hospital.
