Former News Anchor Tom Brokaw Survives Car Accident
Former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw and his wife Meredith survived a three-vehicle highway accident. A woman driving an SUV was thrown out of her car and fell to her death 40 feet off the highway.
Suejes Estrada, 30, did not survive the crash that occurred at 1 PM Friday, December 4, near the Amtrak train tracks in Hunts Point at the Bruckner Expressway.
Estrada was trying to avoid some debris when she lost control and careened into the middle lane where she forced a US Postal Service truck to swerve to Brokaw’s lane.
The still unnamed truck driver was treated for trauma but escaped injury. The Brokaw couple was also unhurt and was not rushed to the hospital. They said in a statement that they were saddened with the loss of life of Estrada.
Brokaw was the anchor of NBC Nightly News from 1982 until 2004. He also anchored two other NBC news shows, Today (1976-1981) and Meet the Press (2008).
