Gavin Rossdale Admits Affair with Marilyn
Gavin Rossdale has finally come clean, admitting in a magazine interview that the rumor that he slept with a cross-dressing 1980s pop star when he was still a teenager was indeed true.
In an interview with Details magazine, Rossdale said that he had an affair with pop singer Marilyn, whose real name is Peter Robinson, but he insisted that the encounter occurred only once and when he was only 17 years old. “When you’re 17, Jesus Christ. I don’t think there’s anything strange about any form of—you’re learning about life. It’s a part of growing up. That’s it. No more, no less,” Rossdale said when asked to comment about Marilyn’s claim last year that they had a five-year affair.
British singer Boy George was the first to tell the world about the Rossdale-Marilyn affair in his 1995 book “Take it Like a Man.” Rossdale said he did not make a public reaction back then because George’s book came out when Bush was just starting. “I think at the outset there was a sort of fear—that was right at the beginning of Bush, and I didn’t want it to be part of it. It felt like a cheap shot, so I was like, “I’m not getting involved.”
