George Lopez Show Axed

George Lopez has become the latest to lose a spot in the tough late-night television slot, as TBS announced that it would be cancelling “Lopez Tonight” after two seasons.

TBS said in a statement that the last episode of “Lopez Tonight” will air on Thursday. “TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of ‘Lopez Tonight,” TBS said. “We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air.”

“Lopez Tonight” was earlier moved to the midnight time slot to give way to Conan O’Brien, who was taken by TBS after his departure from NBC. The end of “Lopez Tonight” had been speculated due to its dwindling audience. “Lopez Tonight” lost 40 percent of its audience in the second season despite the stream of Hollywood A-listers who appeared on the show.
