2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup Quarterfinals: Canada vs. Honduras

Canada returns to Gold Cup action seeking vengeance for their controversial semi-final defeat to the United Sates two years ago. The Americans won the semi-final match against The Canucks 2-1 but the game had a litigious ending, as a late Canadian equalizer was ruled offside.

Tonight, they’ll take the pitch in Philadelphia against Honduras followed by another quarterfinal match between the U.S. and Panama. A win against El Salvador and a draw with Costa Rica gave the Canadians top spot in Group A.

Honduras will no doubt start as favorites and will also be high on confidence coming off a 4-0 drubbing of Grenada to qualify from Group B.

Game time is 5 p.m. EDT at the Lincoln Financial Field.

UPDATE: Honduras captain Walter Martinez converted a controversial first-half penalty to lift Los Catrachos to a 1-0 win over Canada and a place in the Gold Cup semifinals against the U.S.
