Hollywood Walk of Fame Turns 50
The Hollywood Walk of Fame turns 50 this year and several events are to be conducted in celebrating it. Meanwhile, a star was posthumously awarded to the King of Swing, Louis Prima, as part of the celebrations.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce decides who gets a star at the famous tourist stopover, which stretches over the one a half mile along Hollywood Boulevard. They have announced that a public festival, free shows, events and special deals from the dozens of merchants along the area will unfold starting Sunday, August 1.
“As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, we wanted to encourage the public to visit, to walk the walk and enjoy Hollywood,” said Leron Gubler, the President and CEO of the Chamber. “It’s an open house to give people the chance to get acquainted with the area.”
Meanwhile, the 2,413th star has been awarded to the King of Swing Louis Prima Sunday, July 25. Prima, died in 1978 and would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. His children, Louis Jr and Lena were present at the ceremony.
