Hornets fire Byron Scott, Jeff Bower to take over

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Byron Scott was fired as coach of the New Orleans Hornets after the team’s disappointing 3-6 start. He was replaced by General Manager Jeff Bower.

“I want to thank Byron for the hard work he has put in during his time with the Hornets,” said Hornets Owner George Shinn in a statement released Thursday morning. “I’ve hired Jeff Bower to take over the coaching reign. He knows this team better than anyone… This is our best opportunity to reach our goals this season.”

Former Hornets coach Tim Floyd has been named as Bower’s top assistant.

On Wednesday New Orleans lost 124-104 at Phoenix, a match in which they trailed by as much as 29 points in the fourth quarter.
