joanna pacitti disqualified

A number of American Idol fans want Joanna Pacitti out of the competition because of “her background” and “the advantage she may have if she makes it to the public vote”.

Fans are upset that she’s already had a record deal and starred on Broadway. She’s also been criticized for using the program in order to boost her singing career.

The 24-year-old contender got her first big break when she joined the cast of “Annie” on Broadway at age 11.

After moving to Los Angeles at age 16, Joanna has signed to A&M Records, and has had songs featured on the soundtracks of Legally Blonde, First Daughter, Nancy Drew and the Bratz movie. Her song “Out From Under” was even covered by Britney Spears on her recent CD, “Circus”.

In 2006, she released an album on Geffen called “This Crazy Life”. But with no commercial success, she was dropped from the record label.

And Joanna has already been a part of a reality TV show. She was featured in one of MTV’s “True Life” episodes, which followed her as she worked her singing career.

What do you think? Should Joanna be disqualified?

Not at all – she's not even close to the first AI contestant who has previously had a record deal.

well, she no longer has a record contract with a label, so why should she give up? why should we encourage her to give up on her dreams? when one door closes, let another one open! what are we afraid of? that she's good? that she can win? what's wrong with that? America votes anyway right! I don't recall that one of the rules to be on American Idol was to never have had a record deal before, just that you dont have one at the time you audition. Just watch, from all the criticism that will soon become a rule!

I think America was a little hypocritical in their judgement of Joanna Pacitti. The girl was simply exploring an opportunity. Even if they won't admit it, most of the ones complaining about her involvement would do the same thing if in her shoes. Amercian Idol is a singing competition. That's all. If you don't like the way she sings, then just don't vote for her. Don't go trying to make American Idol fair. Life is not fair. I don't agree with a few of the judges choices for who made it on the show and who didn't, but I'm not going to waste my time making a big deal about it. All you crybabies need to get a real life.
