Miley Cyrus has stirred up another photo controversy, but it’s not for racy pictures this time.

miley cyrus slant eye photo

In the above photo taken with boyfriend Justin Gaston and a group of friends, the Disney star pulls a slant-eye pose in an apparent attempt to look (East) Asian.

After the image surfaced on the Internet, she has been receiving criticism from Asian groups and the Asian community branding the said photograph as “offensive and racist.”

The Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) said in a statement:

The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans. This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent…

The OCA said the inclusion of an Asian American in the photo did not make the image acceptable.

C’mon, these kids were just having fun… don’t take them too seriously. I have some Chinese friends and they don’t really get offended whenever we do this pose.

Some people are soooo boring!

Miley should learn that parts of the country are actually accepting and tolerant of the differences that make people unique. She shouldn't mock entire groups. http://dadshouseblog.com/2009/02/06/miley-cyrus

You know, that is pretty racist. This is called stereotyping asians, unless of course the asians do not mind it.Its pretty much the same as the “dumb blonde” stereotype. But hey.I guess they're just teenagers with no clue that it could be an insult. The asian guy is american, and is probably used to it.

  • Dude

Luv how some are saying their just goofing off etc.. If so? Then why isn't the asian guy doing the same and joining in the fun? That dude looks like he has no idea that he's the butt of the joke.

Also it's laughable when some say “oh I do it all the time with my asian friends and they don't mind” Either their full of it or their “asian” pals are wusses. Similar to the “I call my black friends the N-word all the time and they don't mind” LOL yeah right…

Whats wrong with her hand? It looks like her right hand is on backwards, and it is the only blurry part of the picture.

Whys everyone having a go at miley.. most people have done that with their eyes..its not intentionally racist.. people should just leave her alone and stop trying to find faults with her. Shes a decent person she hasnt gone off the rails like Lindsey and Britany and she is not racist.. if all you people think she is then why arent you having a go at the other guy in that picture doing the same thing??..its pathetic. Grow up and stop trying to find fault in her.

If this is offensive to you, then you need to evaluate yourself. This is in no way offensive. This so called OCA just wanted something to talk about and get a little publicity. You people are crazy.

  • MADe in the USA

Looks like a bunch of ignorant drunks acting stupid! I'am American and feel if this picture was not put in the publics eyes then we wouldn't have a problem with it, but since they acted stupid and plastered all over then Miley has to deal with what has been delt her. Asian people are a very respected culture and should not have to be exposed to this kind of crap. Perhaps Miley and friends are insucure for the rising demand for more beautiful Asian girls. Look around and you will see that every American guy that has is arms around an Asian also has a very big smile so dont knock a good thing.

omg everybody calm down. she didn't do anything wrong here. she can't ever have fun without someone saying something or creating a big deal out of it.

  • Michelle

Weirdo! If you would have bothered to look at the photo you would have noticed that from what you can see of the whites of their eyes they are bloodshot! They are NOT trying to look Asian they are making fun of being STONED!!! Which isn't great either and I'm sure she would take a hit one way or another but the kid is just that A KID!!! Let her parents deal with her and quit snooping in her panty drawer.

  • BritPop

Um – Michelle, you're completely wrong about the looking stoned thing. Don't know where you got that ridiculous idea! It is racist but she obviously didn't think about the consequences of her actions, as a lot of young people don't. She does need to be more careful because she is in a priveliged position of great influence. Also qwerty – it's not stereotyping, that's something completely different. This is making fun of the fact that a certain race of people have different physical attributes. “American people are so thick” would be stereotyping. I can't believe i've just lowered myself to the level of posting my insignificant opinions on the web along with millions of ther losers.

Honestly, you sound no more educated than a 12 year old if you can't decipher the difference between “your” and “you're.” Secondly, I really don't know how to respond to your stupidity. It is offensive. I honestly don't know where to begin with some of the misguided comments on here. It may not have been a stereotype, but it most certainly was racist.

“OF COURSE SHE KNOWS ITS AN INSULT, thats why she did it …” point well proven Justin.
You, my good sir, are incredibly insipid.
So please, learn English, learn more about American history, learn more about civil law and constitutional rights, and the principles of Americanism before you go about making your uneducated claims about racism.

    -An American of Asian descent.
