James Franco and Anne Hathaway Named Oscar Show Hosts

OscarsThe Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday, November 29, that the hosts for next year’s Academy Awards show will not be coming from the pool of stand-up comics. Instead, they geared up in luring the younger generation to watch the show.

James Franco (Spiderman franchise) and Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries series) were named to take the hosting gig in the 83rd edition of the handing out ceremonies scheduled February 27.

“James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons — fresh, exciting and multi-talented,” said the statement from Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer, producers of the telecast.

Hathaway is 28 and Franco is 32.

“I can only say I’m excited,” the actress was quoted after being named.

This is the second year in a row that there will be two hosts. Last March, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were the hosts.

Comics Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman, Billy Crytal, Jon Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres have hosted the shows during the last decade.
