‘Jennifer’s Body’ Not as Delicious as ‘Meatballs’ at the Box Office

Jennifer's Body

Jennifer’s Body, the new movie starring Megan Fox and her voluptuous physique as the title character, failed to dominate the US weekend box office.

Advertised mainly as the movie that finally puts Fox front and center after taking on supporting roles in the Lindsay Lohan-starrer Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and the robot action-packed Transformers (the project that gave her international popularity as well as sex symbol status), Jennifer’s Body is about an attractive yet arrogant high school flag girl who gets possessed by a man-eating demon. The movie is of the horror comedy type, a sub-genre that is “a tough sell at the box office,” according to Box Office Mojo, “giving Jennifer’s Body an uphill battle to find a theatrical audience from its inception.” Devouring $6,868,397, Jennifer’s Body assumed the not-so-desirable fifth position at the weekend box office.

The coveted top spot belonged instead to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, the latest computer-animated film from Sony Pictures Animation, with a weekend gross of $30,304,648. At second place is The Informant!, the new film starring Matt Damon, with $10,464,314. Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself and Love Happens are at the third and fourth positions with $9,877,436 and $8,057,010, respectively.
