Jim Harbaugh is New 49ers Coach
Jim Harbaugh has decided that it is time to go back to the NFL—this time as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
Harbaugh, an NFL quarterback from 1987 to 2001, was introduced Friday as the new head coach of the 49ers and the man tasked to turn around the fortunes of a once-mighty team. Harbaugh, who was treated like royalty in his introductory press conference, said he accepted the 49ers offer as it is a “perfect competitive opportunity.” Indeed, Harbaugh faces a lot of challenges as he has to bring to life a 49ers team that has missed the NFL playoffs the last eight seasons, including this year when it was tipped to top the NFC West.
Harbaugh made the leap to the NFL just days after leading the Stanford Cardinals to their first bowl victory in 14 years with a 40-12 rout of Virginia Tech at the Orange Bowl. Harbaugh leaves the Cardinals with an impressive 12-1 record this season and 29-21 overall in four years at Stanford.
