American Idol: Kris wins coin toss, Adam will sing first next week

After Wednesday’s show, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert flipped a coin to decide position in next week’s much-anticipated sing-off. Kris won the toss — and Adam will sing first.

This could be a great advantage for the 23-year-old singer as this means people are more likely to remember the last song that he sings.

The performance order for the past seven seasons has been:

Season 1: Justin Guarini, Kelly Clarkson

Season 2: Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken

Season 3: Diana DeGarmo, Fantasia Barrino

Season 4: Bo Bice, Carrie Underwood

Season 5: Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks

Season 6: Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks

Season 7: David Cook, David Archuleta

  • I prefer Kris, though Adam has an amazing voice. I just prefer the genre that Kris sings. "Heartless" was amazing. I just bought the studio version. It is very different (full band and voice overlapping) but brilliant in its own right. It could be a smash on the radio right now.

    Isn't that what Idol is all about? Finding folks who can make hit records?

    It may not be a good thing to sing after Adam, because I think Kris better blow everyone away then if he wants to compete with Adam. Have you heard Adam's studio versions, they are fantastic and I believe his CD will be the best.

    Well, there have been lots of psychological studies done of primacy vs recency effects (first vs last thing seen), but I'm betting all that is irrelevant to the outcome here. Who is likely to be rolling into this particular finale still up-in-the-air about who they would vote for??

    Seriously, it's just as likely that Adam will wow the crowd right out of the starting gate and anything Kris does afterwards will pale by comparison (primacy effect).

    It will be interesting to see how it all plays out!
