Kristen Stewart Apologizes for Rape Remarks
Twilight Saga film franchise star Kristen Stewart has apologized for a remark she made for comparing her sudden fame in Hollywood and her dealings with the paparazzi to being sexually assaulted or being raped.
Her remark that showed up in Britain’s Elle magazine were as follows: “The photos are so…I feel like I’m looking at someone being raped…A lot of the time I can’t handle it. I never expected that this would be my life.”
She has been criticized by her fans and by rape victim groups.
Her apology came out in People Magazine. She said, “I really made an enormous mistake — clearly and obviously. And I’m really sorry about my choice of words. ‘Violated’ definitely would have been a better way of expressing the thought. People thinking that I’m insensitive about this subject rips my guts out. I made a big mistake.”
Stewart has been a spokeswoman for Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) after playing a role of a rape victim in the 2004 movie Speak. The group said that her words were inappropriate and is now expressing appreciation for the apology from the actress and that they are still looking forward in working with her again in the future.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third film in the series, is set for a June 30 release.
