La Liga: Real Madrid vs. Deportivo La Coruna

All roads lead to Estadio Bernabeu tonight as the most expensive football team assembled takes to the field in a competitive match for the first time.

New-look Real Madrid expect the start of the new La Liga season with a lot of confidence and they are more than eager to wrest the title back off Barcelona. The powerhouse that Los Blancos have made themselves for this season is simply remarkable.

Tonight they host Deportivo La Coruna, with coach Manuel Pellegrini promising a season of entertainment for football enthusiasts.

The new Los Blancos will always be defined by Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka. However, we think Xabi Alonso will be the one who will dictate Real Madrid’s play this season. With Lassana Diarra alongside him and Benzema, Kaka and Ronaldo to pick out up-front the former Liverpool man surely can’t fail.

But according to Deportivo coach Miguel Lotina, Real may be much stronger but Barca are still favorites for the title. In a recent interview he said: “Barcelona have the advantage of playing from memory. They work more than anyone else in Spain, both in defense and attack, and play equally with whichever player.”

Game time is 8:00 p.m. CET (2:00 p.m. ET).

UPDATE: Ronaldo converted a first half penalty as Real Madrid won 3-2 against Deportivo La Coruna in the opening fixture of the Spanish League season.

Raul had earlier given Los Blancos the lead. Depor drew level twice but Lassana Diarra’s second half strike from long distance gave Real the perfect start to the campaign.
