Galaxy’s Landon Donovan catches swine flu
U.S. soccer’s all-time leading goal scorer Landon Donovan has tested positive for the H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu, he told SI.com on Thursday.
Donovan told the website he contracted the disease in the U.S. last week and not during his stay in Mexico. He played against “El Tri” at the 2012 World Cup Qualifier on Wednesday while sick and didn’t even know it.
“I felt something when I got into Miami on Sunday,” SI.com quoted Donovan as saying. “I just felt real bad and finally went to see the doctor. They took a swab from my nose and confirmed it, so that was that.”
The Los Angeles Galaxy star added that he’s uncertain whether or not he’ll take part in his team’s game on Saturday against the Seattle Sounders.
