Lindsey Vonn Unsure of Olympic Stint
The United States’ biggest hope in the coming Vancouver Winter Olympics might also be the biggest disappointment for Americans. Skier Lindsey Vonn, who is being touted as having the potential to become the Games’ Michael Phelps, said in a news conference that she is not certain if she could compete in the Olympics, which kick off on Friday.
The reigning overall World Cup ski champion said she is suffering from a severely bruised shin. The injury occurred while she was training in Austria last week. The 25-year-old said it is possible that she would be out for the duration of the Games.
Vonn is projected to win the gold medal in her favorite events, the downhill and super-G. She recently graced the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s February issue, where her provocative pose drew protests from prudes who interpreted it as being sexist. She also appeared in S.I.’s swimsuit issue, where she shows off the body that has made her one of the very few athletes to possess both talent and beauty.
