Live greener, happy 420!

Today (April 20th) is “National Pot Smoking Day.” It’s a day where people all over the world celebrate by smoking weed.

According to Steven Hager, editor of High Times, the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School in 1971 when a group of about 12 students calling themselves the Waldos would meet after class at about 4:20 in the afternoon to smoke marijuana near the campus statue of Louis Pasteur.

A quote from one of the Waldos in the magazine states, “We did discover we could talk about getting high in front of our parents without them knowing by using the phrase 420.”

According to some pot smokers, there are about 420 active chemicals in marijuana, but this number goes up and down depending on which plant is used.

Another version suggests 420 originated from Adolf Hitler‘s birthday. The Nazi leader was born on April 20, 1889. Pot smokers have turned this infamous day into a celebration of peace and freedom.

Happy Weed Day!
