Luge crash kills Nodar Kumaritashvili at Vancouver Olympics (video)
Tragedy hit the 2010 Vancouver Olympics Friday as Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili died after crashing during a training run.
Kumaritashvili, 21, lost control of his sled and collided with an unpadded metal post while training at the Whistler Sliding Center. He lost control on the final bend of the track and was launched over the lip of the path before colliding with a pillar at 144 kilometers per hour.
Kumaritashvili was immediately placed on a stretcher with blood pouring from his face and airlifted to hospital where he later died.
Officials are investigating the causes of the accident.
