Magic eliminate Celtics, Lakers win Game 7
Boston Celtics’ reign as NBA champions ended Sunday night at TD Banknorth Garden when the Orlando Magic beat them, 101-82, in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Dwight Howard scored 12 points, 16 rebounds and five blocked shots for the Magic, and Hedo Turkoglu added 25 points and 12 assists to dethrone the defending champions.
Ray Allen posted 23 points for the Celtics, and Paul Pierce had 16 before they were taken out of the game for a courtesy cheer with 2:30 left.
The Magic advance to take on Lebron James and the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. The seven-game series begins Wednesday night in Cleveland.
In the West, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Houston Rockets 89-70 on Sunday in Game 7 of their semifinal series.
Spanish center Pau Gasol finished with 21 points and 18 boards, Trevor Ariza notched 15 points, and Kobe Bryant added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Aaron Brooks scored 13 and Luis Scola 11 for Houston.
Los Angeles shot 46% from the field, while holding Houston to just 36% at the Staples Center.
They will host the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals beginning Tuesday.
