Manchester United vs. Bayern Munich [UEFA Champions League]
Manchester United vs. Bayern Munich (2nd Leg): Manchester United FC will host FC Bayern München for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter final match on Tuesday, April 6, at Old Trafford in Stretford, Greater Manchester.
The German side will go into the match against the Red Devils with a 2-1 lead. Bayern Munich’s coach Louis van Gaal said that United are the favorites to advance to the quarterfinals despite their one point advantage in which they secured during Tuesday’s first leg match.
When coach Gaal was asked if he thinks United are the favorites, he answered:
”Yes. They have scored an away goal and they are a great team.”
”They have a lot of experience playing big games at home and of course, they will have the support of the crowd.”
United’s veteran winger Ryan Giggs is urging the home crowd to support and cheer for the them. He knows how important the role of the fans are for the players on the field.
“We’ve all seen so many great nights in Europe at Old Trafford,” Giggs said. “There really is no better feeling as a player with the crowd behind you on a Wednesday night. This is what you become a footballer for. It’s something different on these types of nights and you can feel it. Hopefully we can produce one of our big performances. You know what will come if you play well. If we’re keeping the ball, have the crowd behind us, and are constantly attacking, we can really put them under pressure. It makes it very difficult for our opponents.”
Bayern will come into this fixture without much of a worry in their lineup but the Premier League side will have to sit striker Wayne Rooney due to an ankle injury suffered last Tuesday.
The match kicks-off at 20:45 CET / 2:45 pm ET.
Manchester United managed to score 3 goals but Bayern recovered with 2 of their own. The aggregate score for the 2 legs is 4-4. Bayern oust Manchester United from the UEFA Champions League on away goals.
