Chicago’s Mark Buehrle became just the 18th pitcher in major-league history to throw a perfect game on Thursday when he blanked the defending American League champion Tampa Bay Rays 5-0 at U.S. Cellular Field.
The 30-year-old four-time All-Star became just the sixth pitcher in big-league history to throw a perfect game and another no-hitter. He pitched a no-hitter against Texas in 2007, and he hit a home run in Milwaukee last month.
“A perfect game is defined by Major League Baseball as a game in which a pitcher (or combination of pitchers) pitches a victory that lasts a minimum of nine innings and in which no opposing player reaches base. Thus, the pitcher (or pitchers) cannot allow any hits, walks, hit batsmen, or any opposing player to reach base safely for any other reason.” Source: Wikipedia
