Mavs sweep Lakers, advance to West Finals [VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]
The dream championship series between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat that everyone was expecting earlier in the season is not happening with the two-time defending champions not making it past the Western Conference semifinals.
Yes, Kobe Bryant and the gang blew it.
The Mavs crushed the Lakers in every way Sunday afternoon and completed a four-game sweep of Phil Jackson‘s side with a 122-86 victory at the American Airlines Center. Jason Terry finished with 32 points and set an NBA playoff record with nine three-pointers to send the Mavs into the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2006. The Lakers, who hadn’t been swept in a playoff series since 1999, trailed by 24 points at halftime and never got closer than 20 after the seventh minute mark of the third period.
[Dallas] played extremely well,” Bryant said. “They executed extremely well. Their spacing was excellent. Their depth hurt us. Every night it was a different player stepping up and performing and making plays. The credit belonged to them.”
Jackson, 65, was swept for the first time in 21 postseasons as a coach–and he’s likely headed to retirement. Dallas will go down as the team that ended the Lakers’ quest for a three-peat, and ended an era and the legendary career of arguably the greatest coach in the history of the NBA.
