Miley Cyrus Spells Trouble for Blogger Perez Hilton
Popular blogger Perez Hilton is under fire after he posted a link to an up-the-skirt photo of Miley Cyrus on his Twitter page on Sunday. The photo shows a seemingly underwear-less Miley alighting from a car.
Hilton immediately removed the link from his Twitter account after he was bombarded with harsh comments for becoming party to what appears to be child pornography, as Cyrus is still a minor at age 17. Under the U.S. anti-pornography law, it is prohibited to show or depict the private parts of minors. Child pornography comes with a maximum punishment of 15 years in jail and a lifetime registration as a sex offender.
Hilton defended his action on a video posted on his Web site on June 15, saying that the photograph is a fake as Miley was “clearly wearing underwear.” The 32-year-old blogger said he would not have posted the pic if the Hannah Montana star was actually not wearing anything underneath her skirt. “Sure I like to be controversial, but I don’t want to go to jail,” he said, adding that he only really wanted to point out Cyrus’ lack of grace. “The reason I linked to that photo is because I thought she was exiting this car in a very un-ladylike fashion,” he said.
An expert on child pornography, lawyer Jeffrey Douglas, said Hilton could be in trouble if a lawyer or Cyrus herself decides to teach the blogger a lesson or two. “You don’t have to know what the definition of the law is; all you have to do is knowingly distribute the photograph,” Douglas said.
