Mission Impossible Star Peter Graves Dead at 83
Peter Graves, the actor who played a spymaster in one of television’s most popular secret agent series was found dead Sunday, March 14. He was 83.
Initial statement from the actor’s representative indicates that he died from heart attack. Los Angeles police will not investigate the case as there are no signs of foul play. He is survived by his wife Joan, and three daughters.
Graves became famous when he landed the role of Jim Phelps, who led a team of American government special agents called Impossible Missions Force (IMF) in the hit television series Mission: Impossible. The show ran from 1966 up to 1973 with a revival from 1988-1990.
Every episode began with Agent Phelps listening to instructions detailing his squad’s latest assignment on a tape, which self-destructed within seconds of being played.
The TV series spawned three films that starred Tom Cruise (with an upcoming fourth installment next year).
