NHL Playoffs 2010: Washington Capitals vs. Montreal Canadiens (Game 5)
The Washington Capitals can finish the Montreal Canadiens off tonight at the Verizon Center but the Habs will definitely be fighting for their lives to stay in the playoff series.
After losing 6-3 at the Bell Centre Wednesday night, Jacques Martin’s men need to win this match to force Game 6 back in Montreal on Monday. Washington, meanwhile, was in the exact same position as the Canadiens in last season’s first round, falling behind 3-1 to the New York Rangers before climbing back with three consecutive victories to take the series.
The Caps, who are holding a 3-1 series lead for the first time since they ousted the Buffalo Sabres in the 1998 Eastern Conference finals, have scored 17 goals in the past three games, and have outscored Montreal 9-4 in the third period in the series.
The Habs will be without Jaroslav Spacek, who is sick. He also missed Game 4 and after meeting a doctor was held back from the trip. He skated only briefly yesterday at the Canadiens’ Brossard training center.
The match kicks-off at 7:00 p.m. ET.
UPDATE: The Habs kept their season alive by shocking the top-seeded Caps 2-1 and trim their deficit in the series to 3-2.
