No Hardcore Games Yet for Microsoft Kinect
The vice president for interactive entertainment business of Microfost said that it might still be 18 months away before hardcore games that will use the Kinect can be released.
Kinect is the “controller-free gaming and entertainment experience” by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 video game platform. It is based around a webcam-style add-on peripheral for the console, which will enable users to control and interact with the Xbox 360 without the need to touch a game controller through a natural user interface using gestures, spoken commands, or presented objects and images.
Chris Lewis said that for the meantime, Kinect will be more focused with the “young/older/female/family audiences” during the launch period and Christmas holidays.
The Kinect is slated for release November 2010 with a tag price of $149.
Lewis is quick in saying that the company is still fully aware of its need to appeal to hardcore players.
“I’d say again, that doesn’t mean we’re walking away or forgetting the core–it’s not about mainstream consumer or core gamer. For us it’s about a great experience for both,” he said through GameIndustry.biz.
