Olympic Hockey: USA vs. Switzerland (UPDATED)
Today the USA hockey team will take on Switzerland for the first match of the medal round in the men’s hockey quarterfinals of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The winner of this game will advance to the semifinals to face the winner of the Finland-Czech Republic clash later in the evening.
The United States already defeated Switzerland 3-1 in their face-off earlier in the group A game last Tuesday. We all know what Team USA is capable of, they pulled off a very big upset on Sunday over host country Canada 5-3.
The Swiss team, on the other hand, reached the quarter-finals with a shootout win over Belarus on Tuesday. Switzerland beat Belarus 3-2.
Being undefeated, USA GM Brian Burke still feels that his team can further improve.
“I’m not happy with the way we’ve played to this point,” Burke told USAHockey.com. “We need all hands on deck. We have 10 guys carrying us, in my opinion.”
The USA vs. Switzerland quarterfinal match is scheduled to start at 12:00 PM PST.
Other quarterfinal matches lined up after this game include Canada vs. Russia (16:30 PST), Finland vs. Czech Republic (19:00 PST), and Sweden vs. Slovakia (21:00 PST).
