One dead as elephants go berserk in India [VIDEO]

Elephant Attack India

Two elephants went on a three-hour rampage in Mysore early Wednesday, trampling a 55-year-old security guard to death and causing widespread panic across the southern Indian city.

The chaos began when four elephants were separated from their herd after villagers chased them away from their fields nearby. Two of the elephants retreated towards the forests in the area, but the other two wandered into the city. After a three-hour hunt, the rampaging mammals were eventually subdued with tranquillizers and captured before later being released into the wild. The victim, Renuka Prasad, was crushed against the ground by one of the animals and died instantly.

Officials blamed the mayhem on human invasion of forest areas that are the natural habitat of elephants.
