Oprah and McCartney Receive Kennedy Center Honors

Thus said the comedian during the ceremonies awarding the Kennedy Center Honors to this year’s recipients which include dancer and choreographer Bill T. Jones, country music singer Merle Haggard, Broadway composer Jerry Herman, Beatles star Paul McCartney and media mogul Oprah Winfrey, the subject of Rock’s statement.

US President Barack Obama presented the rainbow ribbon honors to the recipients. Some performances and tributes were rendered by No Doubt, Gwen Stefani, Steve Tyler, Barbara Walters, John Travolta and Julia Roberts.

The Kennedy Center Honors, which is now on its 33rd edition, is an annual honor given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture.

CBS will broadcast the event December 28, 9 PM EST.
