Police Stops Free Concert
Police stopped a free concert in South Street Seaport after people attending the event got unruly and out of control.
As much as twice the anticipated attendees arrived at the free concert of pop band Hanson (pictured) and Canadian rapper Drake. Around 20,000 turned up for the event when only 10,000 were expected to attend.
Concert organizers asked the New York Police Department (NYPD) to help dispersing the crowd at around 7 PM Tuesday, June 15. Some people were already climbing roofs and throwing bottles. There were two persons charged for minor incidents and six suffered minor injuries.
Hanson is responsible for the once popular hit song MMMBop, which still stands as one of the biggest debut single of all time. Drake, meanwhile, expressed sadness for not being able to perform. He is promoting his album Thank Me Later.
The concert was presented by Paper magazine and was a part of the series Sounds Like Paper.
